Val woke up cramped and sticky and a little hungry, but otherwise pretty content. What a switch from the last time he'd woken up in Stella and Aidan's bed. But then he'd been on the end and could easily slide off the bed and tiptoe into the bathroom, and now he was sandwiched in the middle. Which was a comforting place to be, but made it difficult to be the first person awake.

Stella was a morning person, wasn't she? Val tried to roll over, or at least to move enough to wake her up so he could ask her to move so he could get out of bed, because he had to pee.

And then the alarm went off and solved his problem for him.

Stella rolled over, smacked it off, and rolled back to wrap her arm around Val's waist and nuzzle his neck under his hair.

"Morning," he said.

"Mmm," was her answer. "I have to get up. Turn over." She shifted a little so he could roll onto his other side and face her. Doing so moved Aidan's arm which was flung over his hip, but Aidan didn't even twitch.

"I'm a little sticky."

"I'm sure. You look good with bedhead." She grinned and tucked his hair behind his ear. "I never dated a boy with hair this long. When I was in high school I went out with a guy who had shoulder-length hair. He bleached it. It wasn't a good look for him, the bleach or the length. But it looks good on you."

"My mom still sometimes tells me to cut it. It's been this long since I was in eighth grade."

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"I bet you were so cute."

"I was a metalhead."

"Really! In eighth grade?" She looked delighted. "Wait, tell me this story over breakfast. I plan an hour in the morning from when the alarm clock goes off to when I have to leave. Aidan gets another twenty minutes before I push his ass out of bed. I'm going to take a shower. You can join me." She grinned saucily.

"I think I'm going to wait until I get home. That's still a little too much right now. It's too, um, intimate? I don't know. This is still new."

"Showering with me is intimate?" She giggled. "So what's fucking me? Me blowing you isn't intimate?"

"No, it is, it's just... it's different, ok?" He'd have to use their shampoo and their soap and their towels, and that was another step towards couplehood that he wasn't ready to take. If he counted how long they'd been together from the past Saturday when they'd first mentioned it to him, that was only five days. Five days seemed too soon to be using your partners' bath products.

"You are so strange. Aidan said you were weird, but I didn't believe him. Ok, you can be sticky all the way home." She leaned forward to give him a quick good-morning kiss and then rolled away and off the bed. He watched her pull clean undies and a bra out of a drawer, and then she disappeared into the bathroom. He figured maybe he should get out of bed and get dressed too. Aidan was dead to the world and Val wasn't quite sure how hard he was to wake up.

Aidan didn't think Val had it in him to take charge of a situation. Well. Val in all his new-found zen and sexual comfort could prove Aidan wrong.

He spit into his hand and then reached down between them to wrap his fingers around Aidan's half-hard cock and start to pull. Aidan murmured something in his sleep. Val stroked him slowly, wanting to wake him up before he was fully erect, and Aidan's hips started to move slightly, the suggestion of a thrust without any real power behind it, and he opened his eyes.

"Morning," Val murmured, stroking a little harder now that Aidan was awake.

Aidan cracked a grin. "Morning. Do I get your mouth or just your hand?"

"What do you want?"

"In a perfect world I'd want you to roll me over and fuck me, but I don't know what kind of time we have...."

"Are there condoms in the nightstand behind you?"

"I can't move to see. Someone's jerking me off." Aidan tried to push the covers off himself, maybe so he could watch Val's hand, and managed to get them shoved down about to his waist. He flopped onto his back. Now that he had better leverage he could wriggle out from under the blankets, and he lifted his head to watch Val's hand stroking up and down his dick. "Yeah, that's the stuff," he said. He flung out one hand and grabbed Val by the back of the neck and pulled his head down for a kiss.

Aidan's hips pushed his cock into Val's hand as his tongue pushed into Val's mouth, and Val let him control the kiss because Val had control of the hand job. He jerked harder and faster and in almost no time Aidan was trembling and gasping into Val's mouth and shooting over his hand.

"That's my favorite wakeup call," he panted. "You want to stay over every night and wake me up like that every morning?"

"Eventually you'll have to pay me back," Val said.

"Yeah, I guess." He brushed at the come on his skin. "Now I really need a shower." He looked at Val speculatively. "Want to join me?"

"Stella asked me that too. I'm going to wait until I get home and don't feel bad about leaving a hairball in the drain."

"Yeah, I bet you shed." Aidan yawned and stretched. Val let himself admire Aidan's naked body. He was a good-looking guy. Val felt pretty lucky. Aidan must have noticed, because he wiggled a little bit and struck a pose.

The bathroom door opened and Stella stuck her head into the bedroom to say "Shower's free if someone wants it."

"That's my cue," Aidan sighed, kicking the blankets off his legs and getting out of bed. "Sure you don't want to shower with me?"

"I'm sure."

"Your loss."

Val watched Aidan's ass as Aidan found clean boxers and wandered naked into the bathroom. He didn't bother to shut the door, and Val turned away when he heard Aidan start to piss. If borrowing their shower was too intimate, then watching Aidan pee was off the scale. He got out of bed instead and started looking for his clothes and getting dressed. One of his boots had ended up underneath the bed. Weird.

By this time Stella had come out of the bathroom with a towel tied around herself and was looking in the closet for something to wear.

"Can you start the coffee?" she asked Val. "It's in the freezer. The coffeemaker's easy."

"Ok," he said, and left her to her dressing.

The coffeemaker wasn't easy, but that was just because it was a style he wasn't familiar with, but he had it figured out and happily perking away when Stella and Aidan finally joined him in the kitchen. Stella scrambled eggs, Aidan made toast, Val poured orange juice and then coffee, and they sat at the table eating breakfast and talking like the three of them being together like this was the most normal thing in the world. Val was internally pleased to note that he still wasn't freaking out.

"So what are you going to do today?" Aidan asked. "While the rest of us wage slaves are chained to our desks."

"I don't know," Val said. He added some sugar to his coffee. "I thought I'd get out my running shoes and go for a run. I haven't done that in a long time. I probably don't have any stamina left."

"Oh, I think you have a lot of staying power." Aidan waggled his eyebrows. Stella giggled. Val tried not to blush. "Last night? That was fun. We should do that again sometime soon."

"I had a good time. It felt very... comfortable. Like I fit."

"That's the goal." Aidan grinned at him.

"I'm so happy," Stella said. "We want you to be comfortable. We want you to feel like a part of us."

"So are you ready to go out on a date with me?" Aidan asked. "I was thinking this Saturday or maybe Sunday. I have a plan."

"What is it?" Val asked dubiously. He wondered how much sex figured into the plan.

"The zoo." Aidan bounced a little in his chair. Stella giggled.

"The zoo? That's a date?"

"Tell me again, when was the last time you went out with someone? The lesbian doesn't count."

"Oh, ok, fine. Why the zoo?"

"I like the camels. And the lizards. And the polar bears."

"Not the lizards," Stella said.

"They freak her out," Aidan stage-whispered to Val.

"I don't like the reptile house." She shivered. "I'm not fond of all the snakes either."

"I haven't been to a zoo in a long time," Val said. "The first time I went to visit Morgan, she wanted to take me to the Houston Zoo. It rained, though, so we didn't go. Billy kept apologizing for the weather, but he thought I was annoyed that he couldn't grill. He wanted Morgan to stand outside with an umbrella, but she wouldn't do it."

"So we'll go to the zoo," Aidan said. "We'll feed the animals, we won't tease the tigers, we'll make faces at the monkeys, it'll be fun. Saturday or Sunday?"

"Saturday. On Sunday I plan to start looking for a job. I'll need to spend some time with the paper and all the online job sites I can find."

"Fun. I'd promise not to keep you out late, but, well, I like your cock, and I'm pretty sure your cock likes me. Come over at, say, ten? We'll go out for pancakes first. All good dates have pancakes."

"Our first date," Stella said, "I ended up sleeping on his couch - we didn't have sex, which wasn't my choice - "

"I was sick, if you can believe that. I had a cold. I didn't even want to kiss her because I didn't want to get her sick either."

"But we were up so late talking, it was just easier for me to stay over. And then in the morning we went to IHOP and I covered my pancakes in syrup and butter and Aidan told me he wanted to marry me."

"She even put syrup on her bacon," Aidan said admiringly. His face softened and he looked over at Stella with such naked love that Val thought he should have a big blinking sign over his head - This man is ridiculously, stupidly in love with this woman. Any other time Val might have felt jealous or third-wheel-ish, but now he just felt a little bit of reflected glee. He liked that they loved each other so much. It made him think down in his soul that maybe someday they'd feel that way about him, and he'd feel that way about them in return.

It was a nice feeling, that possibility of love.

"Our third date," Stella went on, "we went to see some band that Aidan knew, and afterwards we were both hungry - and kind of drunk - and there was this 24-hour diner not far from the club, so we went there and had pancakes at three in the morning."

"And then we went back to my place and fucked like rabbits," Aidan finished.

"The power of the pancake."

"So we'll start our first date with pancakes," Aidan told Val. "And then we'll go to the zoo. See, I figure we'll just go and hang out like two guys might hang out together, and it won't look so much like a date-date. In case that would make you kind of twitchy."

"Why would a date make me twitchy?" Val asked.

"Have you met you? I meant a date with a guy, really. I don't know how out you are in public, you know? I thought dinner and a movie or something was too traditionally datey, and I don't care if people look at me sideways because I'm out with a guy instead of a girl, but I didn't know if you would or not."

"I don't know. I mean, it's been a while since I went on an actual date with a guy. I think going low-key is a good idea." Val's sexuality was so unimportant in the general course of his life that he'd never given a lot of thought to how he wanted the world to perceive him, or how the world might perceive him based on who he was out with and what he did with them.

"That was easy," Stella commented. "So come by at ten. I can make myself scarce later if you want." She finished her coffee, pushed away from the table, and started collecting plates. "We should go. You don't want to be late again," she told Aidan.

"I got a talking-to," he said to Val. "DeSoto kind of talks around you, it's a little weird. We're support staff, we're not worth eye contact or something." He shrugged.

Admins were on a different level than law clerks, but Val had been on the receiving end of that kind of superiority too. He really didn't miss his job right now.

He drove Aidan to work - the school where Stella taught was in the opposite direction from Caswell Velez Malcolm and Simonson, and unless she could show up late enough that she'd have time to take him, Aidan had to bus to the office - and then went home. He took a quick shower, just enough to wash the funk of sex off him, dug his running shoes out of the closet, put on his running shorts and a t-shirt, tied his hair back, and went for a jog around the neighborhood. It felt really good to run. Val had never been a distance runner or anything, and in fact most of his running had been part of swim training, but there was something meditative about it, the same way that swimming laps brought him a kind of inner peace. It could be physically punishing but mentally relaxing, and Val made a mental note to do it more often.

running is meditative for me, too.

also, I like the odd quirks. I feel odd about using other people's shampoo too. and it takes me ages to be willing to leave my own stuff (ie: shampoo) there, too. so I get the quirks.

using other people's bath products is weird! even when they're perfectly ok with it! it's totally one of my quirks too.
